JOB SUMMARY
Kutak Rock LLP seeks a Legal Docketing Assistant in its Los Angeles office. This role will provide secretarial support to the Litigation practice group as well as assist with day-to-day coordination of office service needs. The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented professional who enjoys working in a collaborative and collegial environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide support to litigation attorneys professionally
- Perform electronic court filings for state and federal trial and appellate courts
- Calculate deadlines, file and retrieve court documents, and coordinate service of process
- Screen, review, and process incoming and outgoing court documents and ensure compliance with court rules and procedures
- Review court filings, enter calendar deadlines, and run reports in centralized docketing software (CompuLaw) as requested
- Track critical dates and related details and communicate information with attorneys, paralegals, and staff, as necessary
- Maintain and update all related databases
- Search cases using software and internet resources as necessary
- Physical and electronic file management and storage, including ensuring proper closure and/or destruction of files
- Assist with the coordination of reception area management alongside other staff, including but not limited to; incoming or outgoing phone calls, mail, and package deliveries, visitor hospitality, and conference room set up and scheduling
- Provide assistance with administrative projects as well as general back-up support as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS: Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of court docketing and calendaring procedures and familiarity with court filings and general rules of court for processing pleadings
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to work well under the pressures of deadlines, prioritize and multi-task, and have the ability to move from one project to another
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an aptitude to interface with clients, courts, lawyers, and staff
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with rules-based calendaring software
- Experience with federal, state, and local court systems, including electronic filing systems
- General level of knowledge of court rules and procedures in California state and federal courts
- Familiarity with calendaring software (CompuLaw)
- Ability to work overtime as needed
QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience
- High School degree or equivalent required, associate or bachelor degree preferred
- 2+ years of experience in legal support, docketing, or calendaring, preferably in a litigation practice
Position Information
Status: Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $60,000-$75,000, commensurate with education and experience
Work Arrangement: Hybrid 4:1
