This Opportunity
WSP is seeking a full-time Early Career Plumbing Engineer for their Irvine, California office. The following locations will also be considered: Los Angeles, CA; Riverside, CA. This opportunity involves being part of our deeply experienced Healthcare Team in Southern California.
The WSP Healthcare Team in Southern California is a high-performing group that believes a people-focused approach brings the best results to our clients. Our current projects include a wide variety of healthcare designs and studies ranging from OSHPD-1 acute care hospitals to OSHPD-3 clinics and extended-stay rehabilitation facilities.

How you will Contribute to the Team
Duties and Responsibilities
- Technical
- Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Under general supervision design domestic water, waste, vent, storm systems.
- Assist with performing basic professional plumbing engineering work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, and usage; and installing plumbing, fire protection and suppression, and fluid flow systems to conform with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
- Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications.
- Actively communicate in a team environment.
- Apply entry-level electrical engineering techniques in the development of drawings and specifications.
- Under general supervision design medical and laboratory gas systems.
- Learn and grow in construction administration capabilities by performing related tasks under supervision. These tasks include reviewing construction submittals, responding to RFIs, and performing on-site field observations.
- Industry
- Build awareness of industry events and opportunities.
- Observe client communication and learn best practices in external communication.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Plumbing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or closely related technical certification.
- 0 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.
- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an analytical mindset.
- Developing familiarity with relevant plumbing and mechanical system codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
- Membership in/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $56,300 – $92,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
